Regulations
"Principal Implementation Regulations for the GOOD DESIGN AWARD 2024" stipulate the outline of the GOOD DESIGN AWARD 2024 project. In accordance with the principal implementation regulations, various relevant regulations are prescribed.

Our Ideals
Screening perspectives
Whether tangible or intangible, GOOD DESIGN AWARD evaluates the quality of things that people create to achieve certain ideals and purposes as design. The jury members will consider the following "screening perspectives" to determine whether or not the entries are good designs based on a composite of various views of design context, purpose, process, and outcome.
Whether due considerations, including usability, understandability, friendliness, etc., are given to users
Whether various considerations, including safety, security, environment, physically weak persons, etc., are given to maintain the credibility
Whether the design gains the sympathy of users
Whether the design has attractiveness and induces users’ creativity
Whether issues are skillfully solved by using new technology and materials or through creativity
Whether the entry is reasonably designed or planned with appropriate technology, method, and quality
Whether the entry contributes to the creation of a new industry or business
Whether the entry contributes to the creation of new cultures, such as a new method, lifestyle, communication, etc.
Whether the entry contributes to the realization of the sustainable society
Whether the entry suggests new value, such as a new method, concept, style, etc. to society
Whether the entry puts past contexts and accumulated achievements to propose new value.
Whether the entry proposes a highly sustainable solution from medium- and long-term perspectives.
Whether the entry represents continual improvements in accordance with the times.
Project Policies for 2024
For the GOOD DESIGN AWARD 2024, we have once again appointed Mr. Seiichi Saito as the Chairperson of the Judging Committee, with Mr. Jin Kuramoto and Ms. Yuko Nagayama as Vice-Chairpersons. This year’s theme, “Brave Attitude, Organic Design,” derived from last year’s Focused Issues, complements the usual evaluation perspectives of the GOOD DESIGN AWARD (human, industry, society, and time). In addition to these criteria, we evaluated whether each design was created with a willingness to break free from conventional practices and preconceived notions, as well as the flexibility to adapt to various people, places, and situations involved.
The main points are as follows:
Discovery of Outstanding Designs and Promotion of Applications Domestically and Internationally
During the application period, we organized numerous briefing sessions and consultations both domestically and internationally to motivate potential applicants. In mainland China, we continued collaborating with local media and used multiple channels, including social media and online ads, to promote the award. In Taiwan, we leveraged a well-established podcast channel that has been active since 2022 to share information and discussions on exemplary Japanese designs, thereby enhancing the understanding of GOOD DESIGN AWARD.
Strengthening Information Dissemination Through Owned Media
Launched last year, the “.g Good Design Journal,” an information dissemination section of the official GOOD DESIGN AWARD website, has established itself as a design media outlet by regularly publishing updates on the screening process, and showcasing winners and awarded designs. Official social media accounts on platforms like Facebook and Instagram have also continued to grow in follower count each year. By updating content in a timely and relevant manner, these accounts have enhanced their role as accessible media that bring the GOOD DESIGN AWARD and its recipients closer to general audiences.
Modification of the “GOOD DESIGN GRAND AWARD” Election Method and the Launch of the “Our Favorite G Mark” Event
This year, all of the GOOD DESIGN GOLD AWARDs, which are selected by the Judging Committee, will be considered finalists for the GOOD DESIGN GRAND AWARD, and it will be decided by a vote of the jury members and the winners only as the design professionals, to elect the one design that is recognized as the most outstanding of the year's awarded works. In parallel with the Grand Award, we also held a voting event called “Our Favorite G Mark” in which anyone who visited the exhibition could vote, creating an opportunity to raise awareness of outstanding designs.
Types of Awards
GOOD DESIGN AWARD is presented to entries recognized as excellent designs from among all entries, and then 100 winners with superior designs are chosen as GOOD DESIGN BEST100.
Next, the Judging Committee chooses winners of the GOOD DESIGN GOLD AWARD and GOOD FOCUS AWARD as well as finalists for the GOOD DESIGN GRAND AWARD from the GOOD DESIGN BEST100.
The winner of the GOOD DESIGN GRAND AWARD is chosen from the finalists for that award voting by the jury members, winners, and others.

抱持勇气和有机性的设计
如今,设计“将各种事、物变得更好”的能力越发在各处获得认可。
过去,人们曾认为设计仅对物理性存在发挥作用。但当今的设计也被要求在产生物品的过程和思维本身中发挥作用。作为独具特色的世界设计奖项,GOOD DESIGN AWARD多角度地分析一个创作物,并由来自各领域的评审委员秉持共通的OUTCOME反复讨论,展开评审。
当下GOOD DESIGN AWARD探求的设计是能赋予人们改善各自面临的不同问题、课题的力量的存在,是能让人们的生活变得更加美好的活动。这并非简单地将社会视为一个单一集团,而是通过实际参与创作的人进行高度的分析和分解,才能发现的。
2024年度的主题“抱持勇气和有机性的设计”,是我们去年在编辑FOCUSED ISSUES的过程中诞生的。从事设计的人勇敢地迈出第一步,通过灵活、优美、与情况和场所相对应的有机性思考和体制,将创意落实到社会中去。希望进一步探索这种趋势,并发现各领域、行业中涌现出的时而大胆、时而谦逊的物与事的强大设计。
今年也期待遇到努力创造更美好社会的“抱持勇气和有机性的设计”。

开拓局势的力量
今年的GOOD DESIGN AWARD已近开始。
去年评审会中看到的潮流,让我们发掘出了“抱持勇气和有机性的设计”这一主题。
随时警惕气候变动、大规模灾害威胁的每一天;被停滞感笼罩,缓慢但确实正在被削弱的经济和社会;世界人民所共通的良知因战争和冲突而发生改变。在这种难以对未来报以乐观态度的状况下,通过“造物”的过程,我们还是能强烈地感受到人们渴望变得更好的力量。
现在,设计需要的是一种“开拓局势的力量”。
对于这种停滞不前的状况,大声疾呼的个人以勇气和坚强意志提出创意,赞同的企业和组织有机地携起手来共同采取行动,在社会中具体实施并使其发展成一股巨大的浪潮。被我们称为设计的活动正具有这样的力量。
我们期待创作者们所描绘的事物能够深入人们的生活,并带来良好的改变,同时也希望它们能为自然环境及众多动植物带来安定、平衡的状态。对社会的广阔愿景自不必说,对执着细节的造物也同样令人期待。
期待着今年再次通过GOOD DESIGN AWARD接触到更多坚定的意志和多样的建议。

设计之力的方向
去年,我围绕着“相信设计的力量吗”写下了寄语。今年,我想进一步探讨“设计之力的方向”。
2023年度的主题是“具有OUTCOME的设计”。我们从获奖作品的整体趋势和潮流中得出了今年的主题“抱持勇气和有机性的设计”。这在我脑海中形成了,有机地跨越领域限制,灵活合作,勇敢迈出一步的形象。迈出的这一步的方向是非常重要的。
迈出的第一步是朝着更好的未来吗?如果方向错了,那么努力就有可能白白浪费。我们总是提出了很多创意后决定设计。因此,与资源浪费一样,我们也应该重新审视创意的浪费。一个人能够思考的数量在时间和质量上都是有限的,为了最大限度地发挥设计的力量并迈出一大步,需要正确地定位方向。然而,正确的方向在哪里?这是又一个难以回答的问题,只能在不断的试错中探索。
无论如何,要找到正确的道路,必须付出巨大的努力,然后再花费大量的精力去设计,从而朝着目标前进。个人的力量是有限的,但如果大家能够共享试错的经验,那么就能更快地设定更长远的目标。而这就是GOOD DESIGN AWARD的意义所在。
希望大家能够共享创意及其过程,为他人带来启发,期待今年的GOOD DESIGN AWARD也能成为这样的场所。在设计的过程中,您是如何面对困难,如何有机且勇敢地克服困难的?请务必和我们分享您的抱持勇气和有机性的设计。
