Rules for the Election of the GOOD DESIGN GRAND AWARD 2023

These rules stipulate the items required for the election of the GOOD DESIGN GRAND AWARD for 2023.

 1) GOOD DESIGN GRAND AWARD

The GOOD DESIGN GRAND AWARD is the Prime Minister's Award given to the most outstanding design among all the GOOD DESIGN AWARD winners of the year. This award is elected by the votes of the GOOD DESIGN AWARD jury members (hereinafter referred to as "jury members"), GOOD DESIGN AWARD winners (hereinafter referred to as "winners"), and online vote by the general public. It played a role in symbolizing the trend of design and society in that year. 

2) Finalists (candidates for the GOOD DESIGN GRAND AWARD)

Finalists (candidates for the GOOD DESIGN GRAND AWARD) for the year 2023 will be elected from the "GOOD DESIGN BEST100" for the year 2023 by the chairperson of the Judging Committee, the vice chairperson of the Judging Committee, and the screening unit leaders. The winners will be announced at the "GOOD DESIGN AWARD 2023 Press Conference" held on October 5th. 

3) Voters for the GOOD DESIGN GRAND AWARD

Voters for the election of the GOOD DESIGN GRAND AWARD are the jury members, the winners, and the general public.

• When counting the votes, the ratio of the general public, the winner, and the jury member will be 1:5:100.

• The jury members are not allowed to vote for the candidates that they themselves have been involved in designing or consulting.

4) Grand Award Election Procedure

The election of the GOOD DESIGN GRAND AWARD will be implemented according to the following procedure. 

4-1. Voting for the GOOD DESIGN GRAND AWARD by the general public

Voting by the general public will be conducted online from October 5 to 24, from the special webpage on the GOOD DESIGN AWARD official website. They will be able to select one of the candidates for the grand award and vote for it.

Voting is limited to once per person during the days.

4-2. Finalists' Presentations

Finalists will make a presentation to the jury members and the winners at the Grand Award Election on October 25.

• The order of presentation will be decided by lottery on the day.

• Presentation time is limited to 4 minutes per presentation.

• The jury members themselves cannot be presenters even in the case they play the key role of the Finalist design. 

4-3. Voting for the GOOD DESIGN GRAND AWARD by the jury members and the winners

The jury members and the winners vote after the presentation, and the organizer will display the total result together with the number of the votes from general public.

4-4. Decision of the GOOD DESIGN GRAND AWARD

As a result of the voting, if the difference in votes between 1st and 2nd place is 5% or more of the total number of votes, the 1st place will be decided as the grand award.

If the difference in votes between the first and second-place winners is less than 5% of the total number of votes received, the final vote will be implemented by the jury members and the winners, and the finalist with the most votes will be elected as the grand award winner.

In the event that a decision other than the above is required during the voting, the chairperson of the Judging Committee will make the decision.

The winner of the GOOD DESIGN GRAND AWARD will receive a certificate and a trophy presented by the Prime Minister after completing the prescribed procedures.

Information regarding the election process of the grand award will be published on the GOOD DESIGN AWARD official website.
