Changes in the Number of Entries by Domain and Category
In postwar Japan, the power of design, especially in industrial products, was demanded as part of industrial development. These contemporary needs led to the launch of the “Good Design Products Selection System” in 1957, the predecessor of GOOD DESIGN AWARD. Then, in the 1980s, it expanded its scope beyond industrial products, and today, the GOOD DESIGN AWARD covers and screens all forms of “design,” both tangible and intangible. Here, the changes in the domains and categories of the GOOD DESIGN AWARD, as well as the number of entries for each category, are visualized to show the trend of the times and the spread of “good design” in society.
